Amalia started dancing at a very early age. Since she was four, she was enrolled in the Edmonton School of Ballet, later moving to Variations Academy of Performing Arts. By the age of 14 she had completed 4/8 Royal Academy of Dance Examinations – all with distinction, and performed and competed in multiple dance competitions within Alberta.

Following her Ballet years, she was enrolled in the Ballroom dance program at Elite Dance Studio, where she learned both Latin and Standard, and participated successfully both in performances and competitions.

In 2016 she auditioned and joined the Cuban Movements Dance Academy, where she later became the Principal Female Dancer, and served as the Assistant Choreographer and Female Lead for many of the companies’ productions. Most importantly, however, was “Mi Habana Querida” which debuted to great success at the 2021 Edmonton Fringe Festival.

As a salsa dancer and instructor, Amalia has found her niche within the dance community due to the strong connection to her maternal Hispanic roots as well as her appreciation of technical dance training. Amalia is well versed in the different aspects and styles of salsa such as; Salsa de Casino, Son, Salsa On1, Salsa On2, Salsa Caleña, Shines, and Afro-Cuban.
